Sweet Things

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros {Home}
This Mama has seriously been busy, busy, BUSY. Last week began with Sophie's wonderful art show at school. I couldn't be more proud of all the lovely work she created {and kept secret for the surprise, mind you}. It was a real pleasure to see, plus I got loads of inspiration for keeping both girls busy on rainy days- which seem to endlessly be here.

Now that May has arrived, a very special little girl {Kiele} will be celebrating her
3rd Birthday!!
She and my Grandpa share a Cinco de Mayo birthday together.  I'll be making her a special cake, a recipe from my great Grandmother, Alice, who used to have her own tea and sweet shop. Perhaps I will share her recipe for her Birthday Mocha Cake. {It absolutely is to DIE for}. Sophie is almost done with pre-school, since she has an August birthday, she gets to bring in a special snack to celebrate with the class. So...more baking to do this week :) And I can't forget Mother's Day. Good grief.
I have my work cut out for me that's for sure.

Sunday's weather was pleasantly mild
{wait, did I say it was May? um- yes....and our weather seems to be that of late March/early April. >:( }
So I moved around some of my perennials to make room for a sustainable garden. Things that have already begun to grow: Rhubarb, Green Onions, Chives, Oregano, Rosemary, Parsley. I planted Asparagus and Radishes two weeks ago, which are starting to come up. Carrots and Lettuces went in yesterday.
In about two more weeks I'll do warm weather vegetables- Peas, Beans, Tomatoes, Strawberries, Zucchini, Cucumbers, Pumpkins, Nasturtiums, .....whatever suits my fancy. I'm trying to grow the things we eat most to cut down on grocery costs and for the sheer joy of gardening!

I'll post updates on my ever changing garden. What will you have in your garden this year??
Hope you're all keeping busy as well!

  2. It's so great isn't it! They easily have become a favorite on my very long list of bands I love. :)
