New Work & A Spooky Treasury

 

 August and September, for me, was filled to the brim in creating a streamlined, cohesive collection of crafties and artwork for the 31st North East Wine Country Festival. 

I felt like during this period I had not even one moment to breathe. Along with preparing for the show, I had Sophie{5} to prep for her first year as a Kindergartner and Kiele{3} who began her schooling in Preschool. Boy Oh Boy!

 Schooling is going very well. Everyone has adjusted from the lackadaisical days of summer to the re-formed schedule of scholastic life. It seems for me, I hadn't added anything new to my Etsy shop in a long time. Although, the Wine Festival went well- it could have been much better.

I'm feeling good about this week. Even though it's a rainy Monday, we're having the first thunderstorm of the year ♥. {I LOVE thunderstorms}. Something about them just make me feel so cozy and productive. I suppose it's the fact I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything (weather wise), no sunshine tempting me to bask in, no children begging to go to the park, the house work has all been taken care of before our party this weekend....It's the perfect day to 'live' in my art room. 

I cherish these days.  

My weekend was spent throwing a surprise birthday party for Jamie's brother (turning the big 3-OH!), making cupcakes, making cards, and working on some new bird houses for the shop.

These were SO YUMMY!!!

I was wondering if any of you use the Etsy App Craftopolis? Somehow I've come out from under my rock, was introduced and now am obsessed with using it. (Maybe everyone's known about this for a long time- but not me! No, Sir. Brand new). It's fantastic! It tells you when your items need to be renewed, how many people have been looking in your shop, hearts, favorites, purchases.....(can you tell I'm excited!?) You can even edit EVERYTHING. And so, I did. I'm having a SALE on my winter items, the Cutesy Rag Dolls and Don't Be Catty (Sold).  

In the account of my shop, I always like to give extra when someone makes a purchase. I like to wrap it nice and neat with pretty paper and yarn or ribbon. I'll throw in an added bonus, and a thank you card that I've made specifically for that individual buyer. To me, that's how it should be. 

Maybe in this modern world we're so used to being snubbed, or feeling like a number when we make our purchases. I like opening the things I order from Etsy and seeing that care and thought went into not only the product but the packaging as well.

♥ Etsy Shop Updates♥

♥ So, it's about time I've updated the new items I have been working on into my Etsy Shop . 

 First is a upcycled vintage teak salad bowl. The last of it's family. The rest have been painted and given away as gifts and I thought I had used all of them, but I found one more little guy hiding away in the Art Room closet just waiting for it's day to become a thing of beauty. :) 

The design inspiration came from an outfit in Anthropologie's Catalog (from the December 2009 issue.....Yes. I save all my Anthropologie catalogs).

"Blooms Revealed Cardigan & Longing-For-Yellow Dress"

Last year for Christmas I made some decorative birdhouses as gifts. They were so adorable I became a little obsessed and thought I could make it a tradition of creating a new birdhouse for each collection every year. Well- for some odd reason none of the craft stores had any in stock through the holiday season (how stupid!). So I was delighted to recently pick up a few. The house itself always takes on a persona- nothing is planned per se, i kind of start painting and as a general sense the house 'tells' me how it should be painted (if that make sense??).....haha, it sounds crazy, I know.

This is the house I made for my Mom. We are of English/Swedish/German heritage so this wooden-clog-wearing, cuckoo-clock winding, Hansel & Gretel looking design seemed perfect for her. :) I've had many offers on this particular house. Point being, you'd really have to fight her for it! Anyway, I'd be the one to have it next.

Both girls were painted with high quality acrylic paints on a plank of cherry wood. They measure approximately 15.5" x 11.5".  I have a few more originals yet to add in the shop- a few mixed media/drawings on paper. They need photographed and uploaded. 

I'm trying to be a little more weary of keeping up with my blog.....maybe posting a FEW times a WEEK instead of weekly or...ahem, bi-weekly. In the meantime, keep calm, carry on, and stay creative! ♥
